چکیده

Five metallic cations (Fe3+, Cr3+, Cal+, Mg2+, Mn2+; concentration range, 1.85 X 10-4 to 37 X 10-4 M) were incorporated individually as chlorides into nutrient broth and agar media used for the recovery of phenol-treated Escherichia coli. The effects observed varied with the concentration and the ionic species. In nutrient agar, Fe3+ and Cr3+ were generally beneficial but were toxic at 37 X 10-4 M. Of the divalent ions tested, Ca2 and Mg2+ usually gave higher counts in nutrient broth, except at a concentration of 9.25 X 10-4 M, whereas the effect of Mn2+ was rather variable. Two possible explanations are suggested to explain these effects. Toxic materials may be removed from the media by the precipitates formed on the addition of Fe3+ or Cr3+, or, in the case of the divalent ions, the integrity of the bacterial cell membranes may be maintained.

Effect of a quaternary ammonium germicide on electrophoretic mobility of Escherichia coli in various salt solutions.

Quaternary ammonium compounds, effective as sanitizing agents for food plant equipment under certain conditions, are not well suited as sanitizers for water of high mineral content. Mueller and Seeley (1951) have demonstrated under controlled conditions that various metallic cations can decrease the germicidal action of a quaternary in solution. Knowledge of how such interference takes place co...

جداسازی کاتیون‌ها از محلول پراکسید هیدروژن و بررسی مدلهای جذب سطحی با استفاده از کاتیون کروم (Cr+3)

Concentration of hydrogen peroxide to military grade (about 98 wt%) needs removal of impurities from hydrogen peroxide of commercial grade. In this research, separation of metallic impurities from hydrogen peroxide solution was studied and cations as Al, Fe, Pb, Zn and Cr were separated from commercial hydrogen peroxide using Amberlite IR-120 (strong cationic resin). The cations were separate...

Interactions of Deferasirox as a Chelating Agent with Al and Ga Cations: A Theoretical Study on the [M(DFX)2]3- Nanostructures

A theoretical study was performed to evaluate the defersirox potency to chelate aluminum (Al) and gallium (Ga) as the toxic metals in biological systems. Deferasirox as an important class of chelators, which binds to the metallic center with the ratio of 1:2, is used to remove the toxic metals in the case of iron overload disease. The effects of water and DMSO as the solvent on the electronic n...

Mechanisms of biosorption of different heavy metals by brown marine macroalgae.

The biosorption mechanisms of different heavy metallic cations (Cd, Ni, Pb) to active chemical groups on the cell wall matrix of the nonliving brown marine macroalga, Sargassum vulgaris in its natural form, were examined by the following instrumental and chemical techniques: Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a...
